Awareness of Corporate Control in Television

I am a senior at the University of Pittsburgh working to finish my double major; Communication with a German minor and Corporate/Community Relations under the Media and Professional Communication degree. While studying for my Communication degree we covered many topics concerning mass communication, including the mass media companies. My interest in corporations’ ownership of various media outlets began my junior year. I am intrigued by the idea that large companies are able to hold many of the smaller outlets without it being deemed a market monopoly. Given that certain legislation provides that such a situation cannot arise, but I believe once people care enough to dig a little bit they will find that it in fact does seem to be a monopoly market.

Okay, so not all my time is spent studying for my degrees. I also work part-time at the YMCA at the front desk to earn a little extra cash. I enjoy spending time with my friends and family, as well as going for a run when I get the chance. Some of my interests or hobbies include scrapbooking, relaxing in the library on campus and reading everything I can get my hands on that pertains to fashion. I am also trying to improve my writing in AP style this semester (Spring 2008).
